Narrative: Rex Gerlach began fishing with his father, Ray Gerlach, at age five and has remained a fly fishing enthusiast for the past 67 years.  He started fly fishing at age nine and by age 16 had become a world-class flycaster under the tutelage of a veteran tournament caster.  In 1944 he started what evolved into a highly successful fly tying business staffed by five veteran professional tiers and servicing over 120 wholesale accounts in the Pacific Northwest. After graduating from the Univ. of Minnesota, he undertook a life time career of free-lance writing and photography, in addition to three corporate careers in broadcasting, telecasting and marketing between 1954 and 1986.  He hosted both radio and television "Fishing Forecast" programs while residing in Spokane, WA.  His writing about fly-fishing included hundreds of articles published in newspaper and magazines and four books on fly fishing subjects.  His fly fishing experiences have taken him over much of the US, western and central Canada, England, Ireland and Russia. During one 28-year period he logged over 80,000 hours on the waters of the Inland Northwest and Canada. During that time, Rex and his fishing pals estimated they hooked and released over 160,000 trout, bass, panfish, pike, steelhead and salmon.  The American Casting Association certified Rex as a casting instructor in Fly, Bait, Spincast and Spinning in 1973.
