Martin Westbeek, born in Amsterdam in 1957, is a marketing communications lecturer at the Fontys University in the Netherlands.   He is an avid fly fisherman, whose favorite quarry is trout, sea trout and grayling.   Martin started tying in the 80s, won prizes at some fly tying competitions, and started to tie at shows and demos.   Meanwhile, he has been a regular tier at shows in Britain, Germany, Denmark and Holland.    Martin also tied in the USA (Arkansas and Colorado), Belgium, Italy and Sweden, and does demos at clubs and flyshops in Holland.   He is on the Whiting Pro Team, and flies of his appeared in the Leeson/Schollmeyer book Tying Emergers.   Martin regularly publishes step-by-step patterns, for instance on His favorite flies are trout patterns and he especially enjoys tying

classic style flies using natural materials.   The best advice about tying I was given is: make every thread wrap count.   Ever since that advice I try to focus on details and technique, and I recognize the same eye for detail in Daiichi`s great lineup of hooks. I`m honored to be on the Daiichi Pro Team.
