I started fishing as a youngster around the age of nine, at least I can remember receiving a Zebco spin casting reel and rod for my ninth birthday. Initially, I fished using worms and grasshoppers as bait and caught bass, pan fish and trout. I didn t begin to become interested in fly-fishing until I was 24 years old and then I realized I would have to learn to tie flies. Around the age of 42 I became serious about fly-fishing. I was on the road as a sales trainer for Motorola, Inc. and would spend some of my afternoons at a fly fishing shop learning to tie intermediate type flies. The tying of classical streamers caught on a few years ago and I took a class with Mike Martinek Jr.. renown classic streamer tier, that has aided in my desire to create new designs. Of course, this all leads to more fishing to test new patterns that I am designing. What Fun! I’ve fished the Adirondacks and Catskills, fished rivers, streams and lakes in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Montana, Alaska and Canada. I currently hold Four World Catch-N-Release Records and two Outstanding Angling Achievement Awards in the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame. I have the good fortune to be a fly fishing merit badge counselor in the Allegheny Highlands Council of the Boy Scouts of America. I recently started the Kids on the Fly, a fly fishing group with youngsters 10 to 16 years of age. I have been fortunate to have numerous companies donate equipment and materials for those youngsters to use in learning to tie flies. I use Daiichi Hooks exclusively; in fact all fish in the accompanying photos were caught on Daiichi Hooks!
